The geometric sorter includes a wooden base with four pegs on which the figures are arranged by shape and size. The child must find the exact position of each figure – without forcing, but through observation and experience.
This is a classic example of the Montessori method – learning through action, self-checking and repetition until the movement becomes confident and accurate.
What it actually develops
The hands are a tool of the brain – When the child places the figure correctly, the brain builds a connection between observation and movement.
