What is photo paper?
It is a paper-cellulose based multilayer material for image application, display and storage. It is certainly clear that printing graphic images on ordinary office sheets is not suitable, due to the resulting blurring and pale colors. What is included in its composition?
For the manifestation of a clear and high-quality image, the use of the following products is required in the production of photo paper:
- paper base - the most used is cellulose, although until 1929 a cotton backing was used;
- barium sulfate - is a protective layer that prevents the penetration of the emulsion into the paper base, protects against creasing and gives whiteness to the photo paper;
- photosensitive layer - contains silver halides and is characterized by a fine fractional structure to obtain more saturated shades and contrasting shadows;
- protective coating - acts as a protector against external influences and prevents damage to the photo from scratches, abrasions, prints and others.
How to choose according to the type of printing device?
Photo paper for different printing devices differs in its composition, and using the wrong technology can lead to image distortion and even damage to the printing device. Inkjet printer variants have a multi-component structure, each of which performs specific tasks.
Photo paper intended for laser printers has a wood and lignin content, so when applying the image, uniform heating of the entire surface is required. It is recognized by the special sign - LaserJet.
