This Montessori sorter is one of those “quiet” games that work great at home – no noise, no batteries, but with a lot of meaning. Each egg is made of two parts and is joined only when the color and shape match. The child tries, checks and corrects himself – this is exactly what Montessori self-control is all about.
The set includes 12 shapes: heart, diamond, plus, octagon, square, hexagon, flower, arrow, star, triangle, wheel and trapezoid.
How to play
- Open the eggs and mix the halves.
- The child looks for the correct pair by shape and color and connects the two parts.
- Then arrange “families“: all the same shapes together or all the eggs in one color.
- For older children: a game of “rules“ – “Find all the sharp corners“ or “Collect shapes with many sides“.
What it actually develops
- independence and self-control – trial, check and correction without help
- grouping by attribute – basis for early mathematics
- logical thinking – comparison and selection of the correct solution
- attention and concentration – completing a task
- language through dialogue – naming shapes/colors and explaining “why this pair is correct“
- Study skills – order, sequence, completing a task
Educational focus and application
- Mathematics – shapes, signs, classification, grouping
- The world around us – describing and recognizing characteristics (color, shape, differences)
- Children with SEN – structured task with a clear goal and quick feedback
